Kannada Debate Competition

In a world characterized by diverseopinion and complex challenges the ability to construct coherent arguments, present them stoquently and defend them rigorously is of utmost importance with this thought in mind a Kannada debate competition was organised for the I and II PU students of St Agnes PU College on August 23, 2023. It provided a platform for the students to showcase their oratory skills.

The competition commenced with an opening ceremony that included a welcome address by the cultural secretary Ms Gowthami S followed by an overview of the events rules and regulation. The format of the debate followed the traditional structure including an opening statement, discussion of the topic and closing statement. The judges for this competition were Mrs Namitha who had rendered her service at St Agnes PU College as a former Chemistry lecturer for 3 decades, and Mrs Jyothi, Lecturer in Economics and Political Science, St Agnes PU College. Their expertise and impartiality ensured the fair evaluation of each debate and the selection of winners based on merit. The debate topics covered a wide range of relevant and thought provoking subjects like ‘ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕಜಾಲತಾಣದ ಪಾತ’್ರಚಿಟಿಜ‘ಆಧುನಿಕಜೀವನ ಶೈಲಿಯಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಕುಸಿದಿದೆಯೇ?’ For the I & II PU students respectively. A total of 15 students from I PU and 17 students from II PU participated in the competition.

The participants shared their perspective about each of these topics. Several important issues like, the benefits and the adverse effect of social media on the lives of the students were highlighted by the participants. There was also an insightful discussion about the changes in our lifestyle as a result of modern technology. There was a mixed opinion as to whether this advancement in technology has benefitted or hindered the growth of the individual and the country. The diverse perspectives among the participants added depth to the debate and showcased the multicultural essence of the event. The competition turned out to be a successful one and was brought to an end by Ms Shreeraksha who proposed the vote of thanks. A memento was handed over to the judges as a token of love and gratitude.

From I PUC the first place was grabbed by Ms Manvitha RK (BSBA), second place by Ms AsmathNizmeena (HEPP) and the third place was shared between Ms Nischitha VD (PCMC) and Ms LeeshalFernandes (BEBA) From II PUC the first place was garnered by Ms Varsha B Rao (CSBA), second place was shared between Ms Sanathani (SEBA) and Lakshmi (HEPP) and Ms Varsha MR (PCMB ‘A’) secured the third place.
