“Learning Strategies to Develop 21st Century Skills” Session for the teaching staff
As part of its commitment to faculty development, St Agnes PU College regularly
organizes sessions and workshops to hone and enhance teachers’ skills and keep them
abreast of evolving practices in the field of education.
In line with this objective, the college organized a session on “Learning Strategies to
Develop 21 st Century Skills” for the teaching staff, aimed at equipping and
empowering them with the skills required to navigate the new digital teaching
landscape with confidence.
The resource person for the session was Dr Flosy C.R. D’Souza, Professor, PG Studies
and Research in Education, Mangalore. The invigorating session set the tone for the
new academic year, as teachers sharpened their skills and prepared to adopt revamped
teaching strategies that transform the role of the teacher from a dispenser of
information to an orchestrator of learning.
Dr D’Souza shared several tips on enlivening the classroom through engaging
introductory activities and probing questions to enhance student involvement. She also
emphasized the 4 C’s of 21 st Century Learning Skills—Critical thinking,
Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity—as essential components of modern
education.
She also highlighted the importance of PEGS—Posture, Eye contact, Gestures, and
Sound—as integral to creating an interesting and effective learning environment.
The session was a resounding success, providing teachers with valuable insights and
plenty of food for thought. The Principal, Sr Norine D’Souza, Vice Principal Sr Janet
Sequeira, and the staff of St Agnes PU College and High School were present on the
occasion.
