The Literary Odyssey – A celebration of Books, creativity and imagination

St Agnes PU College celebrated the Literary Odyssey, a week-long celebration of literature, creativity and intellectual engagement from 10 to 14 August 2026. The programme brought together students and faculty members through a diverse range of literacy activities designed to encourage reading, creative expression, communication and a deeper appreciation for the world of books.

The celebration commenced with the inauguration of a book exhibition organised in collaboration with Navakarnataka publications. The exhibition was inaugurated by the chief guest Mrs Namitha Shetty, Former Head of the Department of Chemistry, St Agnes PU College. In her inaugural address, she spoke about the enduring value of books and the importance of developing meaningful reading habits in an increasingly digital world. Her words highlighted the ability of books to broaden perspectives, stimulate imagination and foster lifelong learning.

The week featured a series of engaging literary competitions that provided students and faculty with opportunities to explore literature beyond the conventional classroom. Mark your magic and cover canvas encouraged participants to express their creativity through handcrafted bookmarks and imaginative book cover designs.

The spirit of spontaneous expression took centre stage with impromptu Ink, where participants were given literary topics at random and challenged to present their thoughts with clarity, confidence and originality. The story salesman added an element of persuation and performance, as teams presented creative pitches for books and stories, demonstrating their communication skills, teamwork and ability to engage an audience. Literary characters stepped beyond the pages during character chronicles a cosplay and monologue competition that brought beloved fictional personalities to life. Participants portrayed characters such as Hermione granger and Jo March combining creativity in costume with character interpretation and performance.

The final events of the week, rewrite the plot and the quest, extended the celebration into broader challenges of imagination and problem solving. Rewrite the plot invited participants to explore alternative possibilities within familiar stories while the Quest transformed the library into an interactive setting for a literary treasure hunt, requiring participants to work together, decipher clues and navigate challenges using their knowledge and problem solving abilities.

The Literary Odyssey was made possible through the dedicated guidance of the Principal Sr Norine DSouza, Vice Principal Sr Janet Sequeira, The Librarian Dr Tressie Menezes and the committed efforts of the student cabinet. Their collective contribution ensured that the week was not merely a series of competitions, but a meaningful celebration of reading, creativity, collaboration and expression.
